Lean Champion Certification

Lean Champion Certification

Note: Sessions may be taken separately for those not interested in certification program.

Lean Manufacturing is a strategy for achieving significant improvement in performance through elimination of waste in the total business process. Grand Rapids Community College's Training Solutions (GRCC), in partnership with The Right Place Inc., offer community members the learning foundation to transform their organization.

The Lean Champion will earn a certification after completing 8 core classes , 5 elective classes, and a viable Lean Implementation Project for their organization. Each practicum or Improvement activity is designed to enable participants to take the skills and tools from each module and immediately implement the methodologies at their workplace.

How the Program Works

Prior to acceptance into the certification program, your organization must agree to sponsor your efforts. Sponsorship includes time at project meetings, funds, and a Value Stream to which you can apply the principles, and measure improvements so you can start creating a Continuous Improvement Culture. Estimated time to complete the certification is nine months, and sessions will be repeated beginning in January 2005. For those not interested in Certification, sessions may be taken separately.

Continuing Education "Credit"

Participants will receive one Continuing Education Credit (CEU) for each ten contact hours of classroom participation. CEU "credits" are recognized as evidence of educational achievement and progress by numerous employers, industries, professional associations, and certification and licensing agencies. Many employers require employees to earn a certain number of CEU "credits" each year in order to stay current in their professions. At the conclusion of each course, participants are presented certificates indicating the number of CEU "credits" earned.
