An online resource for anyone seeking information on small to mid-size cities, Livability, recently published its 2019 ranking of the Top 100 Place to Live in America. Grand Rapids, Michigan claimed the No. 45 spot for its museums, restaurants, entertainment options, vibrant summers and diverse economy, among many other highlights.

The Livability Top 100 Ranking is in its sixth year, and ranks more than 1,000 cities annually to derive its Top 100 list. There are 40 data points evaluated, which fall under the following categories:

  • Amenities
  • Demographics
  • Education
  • Economy
  • Health Care
  • Housing
  • Social and Civil Capital
  • Transportation and Infrastructure

'Liv' Score

The 'Liv' score is how each city is ranked after all 40 data points have been take into consideration. Grand Rapids received a 'Liv' score of 620, with the highest score being 725 and the lowest at 455.

Livability said the main themes that arose when surveying young adults on where they'd like to live were affordability, job opportunities, and diversity and inclusion.
