Metro Grand Rapids houses America's 'hottest' ZIP code for second consecutive year

Every year, Realtor.com evaluates thousands of ZIP codes across America to determine which areas' home sales are moving at a much faster rate than the national median. Currently, homes are typically spending about 56 days on the market before purchase - but that's not the case for America's 'hottest' ZIP codes.

Every year, Realtor.com evaluates thousands of ZIP codes across America to determine which areas' home sales are moving at a much faster rate than the national median. Currently, homes are typically spending about 56 days on the market before purchase - but that's not the case for America's 'hottest' ZIP codes.

The economics team at Realtor.com evaluated page views for 16,000 different ZIP codes while also looking at which homes had the fewest days on the market. In addition, they considered median home list prices, mortgage statistics, employment and population growth figures, household incomes and other demographic statistics to derive their list of the top 10 'hottest' ZIP codes in the country.

The 49505 ZIP code, which belongs to the Creston neighborhood in Grand Rapids, took the No.1 spot on the list. Homes here spend a median of 10 days on the market, with a median price of $178,050.

America's 10 Hottest Neighborhoods, 2019:

  2. Omaha, Neb.
  3. Boise, Idaho
  4. Shawnee, Kan.
  5. Rochester, N.Y.
  6. Livonia, Mich.
  7. Melrose, Mass.
  8. Arlington, Texas
  9. Goffstown, N.H.
  10. Colorado Springs, Colo.

In 2018, the 49508 ZIP code in Kentwood held the No. 1 spot, making 2019 the second consecutive year Greater Grand Rapids has been nationally recognized for having the 'hottest' ZIP code on the market.

Tipping a hat to Grand Rapids' 'Beer City USA' moniker, Realtor.com attributes the region's continued popularity to transformations that have taken place over past several decades. The Creston area is also in close proximity to parks, good public schools, and easy access to downtown.
